Quick Facts
- Patrons can pay fees using cash, check, credit/debit, and (if available) account credit.
- Bill payments made in Symphony with cash, check, credit/debit must be processed in both the cash register and Symphony.
- Past payments can be viewed in the Display User Wizard.
- Payments are applied by the date they are billed, oldest to newest.
Procedure
- From the Common Tasks group, select the Clear/Pay Fees wizard. Bills can also be paid from the Display User wizard.
- The amount the patron owes is shown on the right. In this case, the Total owed is $52.95. In Payment, enter the amount the patron would like to pay. Use the dropdown menu to select the Payment type. Select one of the following:
- ACCT_CREDIT - Use this if a patron has a credit balance on their account and would like to apply it to the bill.
- CASH - Patron is paying with cash.
- CHECK - Patron is paying with a check.
- CRED_DEBIT - Patron is paying with a credit or debit card.

Select Pay Bills at the bottom of the page.
- On the left, you can see the "Total bills" and "Still owes" amounts have changed. When making a partial payment the oldest bill is paid first.

Click "Ok" to print a receipt of the transaction for the patron, or click "Cancel" if they don't want one.
- When the transaction is complete, select "Close" at the bottom of the page to close the wizard.
To view the transacation history for a single item
- Find the Individual Bills and Payments section.
- Click the amount in the "Owes" column to open the glossary.
To view past payments in the Display User Wizard
- Click on on the Display User Wizard or press F9.
- Click on the Bills tab.
- Choose Paid from the Bills dropdown menu.
Policy
The library accepts payments for fees owed in person, by phone, by mail and online. For more information on the procedures for accepting payments, please see Cash register.
- In person, cash, check (personal, cashier's or traveler's), money order, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Diners Club and some smartphone apps are accepted.
- By phone, Visa, MasterCard, Discover or Diners Club are accepted.
- By mail, check or money order are accepted.
- Online payments are credited and updated in Symphony without staff intervention. Patrons may pay on My MCL with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or PayPal.
Payments are recorded in Symphony using the Clear/Pay Fees wizard or helper.
Payments for Symphony fees are rung into the cash register.
Patrons may make partial payments.
Cash back is not given for check or credit/debit payments or any refund.
Checks received by mail are recorded as paid in Symphony, rung into the cash register, and processed with the regular cash reconciliation and deposit.
- They are processed at the Troutdale Library.
- Checks received that are over the amount due by $5.00 or less will be accepted and the excess considered a donation.
- Checks received that are over the amount due by $5.01 or more are returned to the patron with an explanatory note and printout of the fees owed.
