Quick Facts
- Symphony determines a staff member’s location by using both the computer station name and the staff member’s home library location. This determines how items are routed at check in and how fee payments appear on daily cash reports.
- Most staff computer stations are identified with a named location, which staff select at login. Staff working on these stations do not need to change their login settings. Symphony will automatically assign staff that location when they log in to the software using one of these stations.
- Staff logging into Symphony or Symphony Web from a computer or mobile device using PCGUI-DISP may need to update their home library location. Updating the staff member’s home library login location will ensure that correct location is set for transactions in Symphony.
- Staff can update their own default login location in Symphony.
- Symphony must be closed and restarted before the change will take effect.
Change staff location in Symphony
Procedure
If you are working on call, in a temporary position, or have changed workgroups here is how to change your location:
- Log in to Symphony.
- Open Modify User Wizard.
- Enter your login (for example, ANNK) in the User ID field. Hit Enter to complete search. Make sure to choose your staff login, not your personal account.
- In the Basic Info tab, use the dropdown menu to select the correct library location.
- Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
- Close Symphony and log in again, so that the change takes effect.
Rationale
The Symphony location should match where the staff person is working. Processes like Clear Holdshelf or pick lists may require staff to update their location to get the correct results.
Station name exceptions:
- Workstation names may not exactly match Symphony station names. If the workstation name is not available, and there are no similar Symphony station names, please call the IT Help Desk at 503-988-HELP (4357), email ithelpdesk@multco.us, or use the Library Help Form.
- If the station is being used for testing purposes, staff may temporarily choose a different station name.
