User ID Manager

November 2022

Quick Facts

  • The User ID Manager is used when adding a new 21168 number to a Library Connect account that doesn’t have one.
    • The User ID Manager is a helper, and is only found in the Modify User Wizard, where you can make both the 21168 and Library Connect account numbers active IDs in Symphony.
    • If the account already has a 21168 number you want to replace, you can just scan in the new card number and not use the User ID Manager.
    • Both account numbers can be used to access accounts in Symphony and most online resources.
  • If a Library Connect patron wants a 21168 card in addition to their Library Connect account student ID number, staff can add it to their account. This is not required.
  • Library Connect allows students at participating school districts to use their student IDs as library cards and more.
  • Always search for existing accounts by birth date before modifying Library Connect accounts. Do not delete Library Connect duplicate accounts. Send the user keys to the Contact Center at contactcenter@multco.us.

Tip: See the User ID Manager video tutorial on the Staff Academy. You must be logged in for this link to work. You can also search for "user ID manager" to find this tutorial.

Making a User ID Number Inactive

The main reason for using User ID Manager to make a number inactive is when a student with a Library Connect account moves to a different school district. The old Library Connect account number must be made inactive and the new Library Connect number must be made active.

To make a User ID inactive; Use the Modify User wizard and open the User ID Manager helper.

  1. Using the arrows, move the old/unused ID number into the Inactive box using the arrows.

  2. Save the change by clicking “ok”.

Policy

Library Connect accounts may have two active account numbers, their Library Connect number and a 21168 number.

A patron may have one active library account, except for AdministrativeEducator, and LOS accounts.

Duplicate accounts should be deleted, if possible, leaving only one account in use.

Bills and checkouts may not be moved from one account to another, except by system wide access/circulation staff or the Contact Center supervisor.

Rationale

Library Connect accounts make it easy for students to use the library by having up to two active account numbers, their Library Connect number and a 21168 card number.

21168 card numbers are not required because students have full access with their Library Connect number.
