Policy
Multnomah County Library staff may use discarded materials for library programs and services.
Library staff will record the date, program, and number of items for the materials they take for these purposes.
Rationale
The library must account for discarded materials whether they are sold, recycled, go to the Friends of the Library, or used for library purposes.
Procedure
Library staff may use discarded library materials for programs and outreach events.
- Materials can be requested from the Friends of the Library or taken from the withdrawn items at their branch location.
- Staff will use the Discarded Library Materials Usage Form to either record the materials withdrawn at the branch and used for programming/outreach OR to request materials from the FOL.
- Materials to be used as Bring ‘em Backs must be requested from the FOL via the form (not kept from donations or withdrawn materials).
- All Donations must be sent to the FOL. Staff may not use any donated materials for program purposes unless it was provided by the FOL
