What is a visual schedule?

Visual schedules provide an outline for what to expect. A visual schedule can help patrons know what will be happening during storytimes or other programs, or while using the library. Just as you may post song words, it's a support for attendees -- children with autism, language learners, hearing impaired participants, and those new to the program or the library.

Association for Library Services to Children blog posts about sensory school age programming, sensory storytimes, and visual schedules.

How do I create or request a schedule?

MCL has a subscription to LessonPix, an online resource for creating materials. There are a limited number of logins available. Email Kate Carter (katec) for login information if you want to create your own cards or if you have other questions.

If you want visual schedule cards created for you, complete the form to select the language(s) and activities.

The cards will be printed on card stock and sent to you for cutting. You can choose if you will ask the Print Shop staff to laminate and how you will display the cards during your storytime or program.

*if you need visual schedule cards for sensory storytime, please email lib-sensory-storytime@multco.us and cc Natasha Forrester Campbell

Available languages

You may choose two or more languages, but cards can only show one language. Duplicate cards will be created for each language wanted. You can also have images only, no text.

Translations are created by the LessonPix software using Google translate and Chinese (simplified and traditional), Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese are available. Before printing, a pdf will be shared with those requesting languages other than English for translation review.
