Policy
Bulletin board space is available at Central Library and at all branch libraries. This space may be used for posting and distributing materials about cultural/educational events and community activities. The posting of material does not constitute the Library's endorsement of any particular viewpoint.
Rationale
Posting public announcements about cultural events, educational programs and community activities is an extension of the Library's service role as an information provider and a limited public forum.
Application
The Library reserves bulletin board space for publicizing Library programs and events. Central Library and Branch Libraries have space available for posting community information.
Due to limited space, the Library cannot guarantee that a poster will be displayed and posters received three days or less before an event are accepted at the discretion of assigned Library staff.
The length of time a poster is displayed depends upon the space available at each location. Posters are displayed for no longer than five days, except during times of low demand for space.
Guidelines for Posting
- Materials to be posted must be given to Library staff members for posting.
At Central Library, posters are received at the Welcome Desk on the first floor. ONLY materials for Central should be delivered to the Welcome Desk. Materials for branch libraries must be delivered to the circulation desk at branch libraries. - Posters advertising events in the Portland metropolitan area are given priority over those advertising out-of-town events.
- Posters that are not date-specific about services offered by community agencies (i.e. Metro Crisis Line) are posted as space allows.
- The Library does not post legal notices.
- A staff member is appointed to keep postings current and neat.
