Policy
Employees are not allowed to bring children under their immediate care to work. Library employees are expected to make arrangements for child care that do not interfere with the performance of their duties or with any operation of the library.
Rationale
Library employees are expected to give their full attention to their job during work hours. Children under an employee's supervision may prevent that employee from performing his/her duties. Unsupervised children in library work areas or in public areas during closed hours disrupt the work of other employees and may pose a safety and liability risk to the library and county.
Application
Any employee who is unable to make satisfactory arrangements for child care during his/her scheduled work hours has the option of requesting paid or unpaid time. The employee may arrive late to work with the supervisor's approval and charge the time missed to vacation, etc. Use of sick leave is not an option unless the employee is making arrangements for a sick child. Bringing a child to work is also not an option.
Short visits by children of employees when the children are accompanied by another adult or are of an age to be on their own are not prohibited by this policy, but are subject to regular work place rules. The county's Take Your Child to Work Day is also exempted from this policy.
