Multnomah County and MCL support using break rooms in a manner that creates the least amount of waste possible. Here is information on greening your lunchtime dining experience. You can find out more by contacting a member or contact of the Library Environmental Team:
Staff members are encouraged to bring a durable water bottle with them. Here is some information on disposable water bottles and why they are not sustainable. You are encouraged to reuse towels for the break room and throughout your location (as opposed to disposable paper towels).
Rationale
Reducing the amount of waste staff generates at lunchtime can greatly reduce the overall waste generated at MCL.
Application
- keep a supply of reusable dishes and flatware for shared use
- cloth towels are preferable to paper.
- used paper towels, lunch leftovers, banana skins, etc can be composted by bringing them home
- keep a refillable cup for purchased drinks (e.g. coffee)
