Storytime Board Book collections

Storytime STEAM kits are on pause.

In an effort to model early literacy best practices, collections of board books have been developed for Book Babies, Tiny Tots, and Black storytimes.  The collections are gathered into gray tubs (crates) and rotate monthly from branch to branch.  The routing schedules are linked below.

Why

Brain Research indicates that a baby's eyes are not fully developed until approximately 6 months old.  As a result, books need to be held within arms length.  Book sets also help us encourage interactive reading by giving parents the chance to take their time, to point out and comment on illustrations, and to follow the lead of their child as they look through the book.  In addition, activities that involve close contact between caregiver and child helps build strong, loving relationships, a prerequisite for all aspects of healthy development.

How to Use

Each crate contains four different titles of age appropriate books.  There are 25 copies of each title.  Select one title to use during a weekly storytime.  During the storytime, hand a copy of the book to each parent and ask her/him to read it to the child.  The storytime leader should model this behavior with a child or stuffed animal.  This is also an excellent time to impart some early literacy information about print awareness or motivation. Here are some safety tips too!

Board Book Tubs

Board Book Tub rotation schedules are updated annually. To be added or removed from a routing list, please email storytime-and-early-learning-support@multco.us

Do you have a board book with a label BB, TT or BST plus a number? The book is from a storytime tub that rotates between locations.

  • BB - Book Babies. TT - Tiny Tots. BST - Black Storytime
  • If you don't know where the current tubs are stored at your location in order to check if the numbers match, ask your youth librarian.
  • The number isn't the tub at your location? Check the routing sheet, put the book in an envelope and send to the youth librarian at that location.
