American Sign Language interpreters are available to people who are Deaf with advance notice of at least 48 hours. Requests can be made by calling 503-988-5123 or filling out the disability accommodation request form. Please note, be specific as to the type of interpretation requested, whether it is American Sign Language, Pidgin Signed English, Total Communication, Cued Speech, or other Deaf or Deaf Oralist methods and/or signed language interpretation needed. Not all forms of communication may be available through the county contract.
Open captioning and closed captioning rely on the services of a court reporter to type out the transcript of a meeting or event. Open captioning occurs live as it happens in full view of the public, usually on a screen, monitor, or laptop screen. Closed captioning is usually recorded after the event has occurred, allowing more time for the captioner to correct the text. If somebody requests open or closed captioning of an event or meeting, please call 503-988-5123 to schedule the captioner. Again, please give at least 48 hours to obtain a captioner.
