Patrons without address or identification

November 2023

Quick facts

  • Information about mail service locations and identification assistance is available for patrons on the Address and ID handout
    • The handout includes services in Portland that will provide a mailing address, allow the mailing address to be used to obtain identification and/or will assist patrons with getting identification.
    • For services outside of Portland, call 211 for other assistance options.
  • New patrons are usually required to provide an address and show identification to receive a Multnomah County Library card. Exceptions can be made on an individual basis by a PIC, Administrator or Contact Center staff. See Requirements.
  • Patrons who do not have a permanent residential address may give an address where they can receive mail, including General Delivery, a PO Box, Transition Projects Inc (TPI) mail service, or the address where they are residing on that day.
  • Identification is not required to use internet computers at the library. See Internet guest pass.
