Frequently asked questions
Why are there two library commons websites?
The team is building the updated library commons in stages. The manual and library card registration form are the first pieces that have been built. Manual pages will exist on both sites for a few weeks so that staff can get familiar with the new site. During this time, the new manual is the official place to find updated information. We will link directly to the new manual from Classic commons after this period of transition. There will continue to be two sites — linked back and forth — as we build the rest of the new site, which will include team and project pages, location pages, Huddle Notes, a new homepage and more.
What if I find broken links or other mistakes?
Send us feedback using this form, or email lib-commons-action-team@multco.us (especially if you want to share a screenshot).
What is the difference between “Related pages” and “Similar pages”?
Related pages are pages within the manual site that are chosen by the page’s editor. The list of Similar pages is produced automatically by the same search engine functionality that the site uses for searching the website. Because Related pages are manually chosen, they are generally more useful.
What is included in the Resources and training section?
This section includes links to pages outside of the new commons site. They might be links to Google docs and folders, a County Commons page, Classic Library Commons or another remote site that is related to the content on the manual page.
Why does the MCL logo link to “classic commons”?
The homepage of commons is still part of the old / classic site. It includes news and links to critical content. Once we develop a homepage on the new commons, we will link to that as the homepage instead.
I can’t find the page or function that I’m looking for.
If you are having trouble finding what you are looking for, first try using the search and filter features to narrow down your results. Still having trouble? The page you are looking for may not be on the new commons yet! So far, the only content on the new commons site are the Library staff manual and the create a card form. We are moving content from classic commons to new commons piece-by-piece, and will send out updates as new types of content become available on new commons. Think that the content you are looking for should be part of the Library staff manual and is not? Please send us feedback so we can make sure to address the problem.
Why isn’t there a search field on every page?
Search fields are located on every page except detailed manual entry pages. We have received feedback requesting search fields on manual entry pages, and are discussing this option as a team.
Why does home breadcrumb link to the library card registration form?
The new commons site is built off the existing library card registration form site. This form is used daily by staff, and the home breadcrumb link has always linked back to this page on this site. Once the new commons homepage has been designed and launched, the home breadcrumb will link to the new homepage.
What's next?
We are currently working on developing improved team and project pages. We then plan to develop a new and improved homepage along with incorporating Huddle Notes into the site. New location pages and resource pages are also part of the plan.
More about the project
Currently the new version of library commons includes the Library staff manual and the Patron registration staff form (for creating library cards).
The manual is organized into broad topic categories and includes popular resources like the circulation and collections manuals, marcom forms, facilities information and more.
The team will continue to add functionality and move other content from the “Classic” library commons site throughout the year.
