In buildings that have a barrier at an exit, this is the area that patrons using wheelchairs should be taken to in the event of a fire. Rescue priority is only found in buildings that have a barrier at an exit, such as Central, North Portland, Hollywood, and Albina.
Staff and PICs should be aware of how to handle mobility restricted patrons if these exits are involved, and to inform emergency responders if there are any patrons in these priority areas. In the event of an emergency, staff and patrons may voluntarily assist patrons requiring mobility assistance if they feel comfortable doing so.

At Central the area of rescue priority is the south staff stairway. This stairway goes from the 1st to 5th floors. The stairway is equipped with sprinklers, fire doors, and is pressurized in the event of a fire. If a patron is left in this area, the PIC should be notified so that he/she can direct fire personnel to assist.
