Library Safety Liaison Redeployment Process

Updated March 2023

LSL Same Day Redeployment

The purpose of sharing LSL resources is to provide more complete and focused attention to safety and security in public spaces than the staff PIC role can provide.

Whether you are requesting or sending an LSL, please read through both sets of criteria to gain awareness of the larger picture. If your specific situation does not fit neatly in this process, or you need coverage for more than a day or two, contact your RM.

Requesting LSLs

An LSL absence is not automatically a reason to request LSL coverage. Location administrators and other staff PICs may not need that level of support. Please be mindful that redeploying an LSL means another location is then doing without. Use the following criteria if you think you need to request an LSL.

Requesting Criteria

  • Your location is experiencing ongoing, frequent, and/or high intensity safety and security incidents and the location leader is not on site.
  • There is a need for continued, direct security support related to a recent critical incident.

Procedure

If you answer yes to either/both of these criteria, you may request an LSL. Contact admins/PICs within your region to request an LSL. If locations in your region are unable to provide an LSL, next send a group text to the PIC phones of all other locations with LSLs available.

Sending LSLs

Sending Criteria

If you get a request to send an LSL, ask yourself if the location you’re at will still be at or above staffing levels listed here (operations emergency staffing) if you send an LSL?

  • If not, you cannot send an LSL.
  • If so, you can send an LSL if you meet at least one of the following criteria:
    • Your location is NOT experiencing ongoing, frequent, and/or high intensity safety and security incidents.
    • The location administrator and PICs present are experienced in handling potential high intensity incidents.

Procedure

Ask the caller if they meet the criteria to request. If so, work through the sending criteria. If you are unable to send an LSL the requestor will reach out to other locations. If you can send an LSL, let the requesting location know the LSL’s schedule and when they can expect them to arrive. Notify your location’s staff that the LSL will be relocated for the day.
