Policy
The library and county encourage energy conservation throughout the system.
Rationale
When we use less energy, not only do we reduce our energy bill, but we put less carbon into the atmosphere; thus our carbon footprint is reduced.
Application
Use the practices below to reduce energy use.
- Ensure you log off computers nightly and restart. Tuesday night computers will automatically turn on, receive updates and reboot and will be on Wednesday morning. PCs will go to sleep automatically when possible to conserve power.
- Leave on checkout stations, including the PC and monitor, to enable necessary updates.
- You may turn off all monitors* and printers* at closing or when leaving your office (*exceptions: leave checkout station monitors and checkout receipt printers on)
- Turn off office machinery power switches (copiers, fax machines, etc.)
- Use power strips for appliances and turn off when not in use, especially overnight while closed
- Turn off lights, if possible, when rooms are not in use
- Turn off all receipt printers when not actively in use
