Procedure

Patrons do not have to be present in the library to renew a fee card. They only have to come in to show identification at the initial registration.

If the card has expired and you look up the patron in the Check Out wizard, you will see a pop-up saying “Permission has expired".

  1. Click "Update Permission" if the patron would like to renew their card and then click "OK".
  2. Click "Review User Record" to review record.
  3. Click "Extend permission" to renew their card and then click "OK". Click cancel at anytime if patron does not want to renew.
  4. Verify the list of household members and update as necessary.
  5. The patron can then pay the charge. The charge must be paid before the card can be used.
  6. Ring the payment into the cash register as an 01 Symphony charge.
  7. Make sure to change the expiration date to one year from the date of payment or one year from the current expiration date, whichever is later, for all of the household members who have their own separate accounts.

Policy

  • Patrons who live outside of Multnomah County or who are not covered under our reciprocal agreement are offered a one-year (365 days) library card for a fee of $180.00 per household. A household is defined as the individuals who reside at one address.
  • There is no discount for senior citizens.
  • As part of the application, the patron is asked about what other individuals (if any) are in their household and if they are authorized to receive a library card. These individuals are then listed in the HISTORY field as being eligible to receive a library card without additional payment, but expiring at the same time as the primary card.
  • Fee patrons have access to all standard library services, including all electronic resources, all media services (OverDrive/Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy, etc.) and Interlibrary Loan services.
  • Patrons do not have to be present in the library to renew a fee card.
