Visitors to staff only areas of Central Library

Rationale

To ensure that staff can easily identify authorized visitors in "Staff Only" areas of the Central Library.  Library staff members should question unknown persons who do not display a Visitor badge or a Multnomah County staff ID badge.

Procedure

  1. I. Library Foundation and Friends of the Library guests:
    1. A. Guests not accompanied by a Central Library staff member, Library Foundation staff member, or Friends of the Library staff member, should wear a Visitor badge when entering and exiting a "Staff Only" area.
    2. B. The Central Manager's Office staff will provide a supply of Visitor badges to Library Foundation and Friends of the Library staff members for use by their guests.  Determination as to how they are issued to/collected from guests is left to the discretion of the Library Foundation and Friends of the Library staff.
    3. C. If Library Foundation or Friends of the Library guests do not have a badge as described above, they should stop at the 1st floor Customer Service desk.  If a staff member from the Library Foundation or Friends of the Library is present, they can accompany their guests to the meeting location.
    4. D. If a Library Foundation or Friends of the Library staff member is not present, the 1st floor Customer Service desk staff will call the Central Manager's Office to request assistance in getting visitors to the meeting location.  If the Central Manager's Office staff is not available to assist, the 1st floor Customer Service desk staff will call the Person-in-Charge (PIC) to accompany visitors to the meeting location.
  2. II. Visitors not associated with the Library Foundation or Friends of the Library:
    Visitors not associated with the Library Foundation or the Friends of the Library should check in at the 1st floor Customer Service desk.  The 1st floor Customer Service desk staff will call the Central Manager's Office to request assistance in getting visitors to the meeting location.  If the Central Manager's Office staff is not available to assist, the 1st floor Customer Service desk staff will call the Person-in-Charge (PIC) to accompany visitors to the meeting location.
  3. III. Guests no longer in need of a Visitor badge may drop them off at the 1st floor Customer Service service desk as they exit the building.
