Patron use of the Internet Stations

May 2023

Quick Facts

  • Library patrons may use the internet stations for up to four hours per day.
  • Each session is for two hours at a time; if there is a patron queue, the session will end.
  • If there are no patrons waiting, computer sessions automatically will be extended at the end of the second hour.
  • Patrons must log in with their own card number and password.
  • If patrons do not have their card or card number, you may help them look it up.
  • If they cannot remember their password, you may help them change it.
  • If they do not have a library account, they may sign up for a one-time unfiltered guest pass if they have identification.
  • If they do not have identification, they may sign up for a one-time filtered guest pass.
  • Patrons and visitors 12 and younger will receive filtered guest passes.
  • Patrons and visitors 13-18 will receive unfiltered guest passes unless their parent, foster parent, or legal guardian fills out a Parental Choice Filtering Form.
  • If a patron asks for extended time when their four hours are finished, it is possible to give them that time if there are stations available, in 30-minute increments.
  • If a patron asks for extended time but all stations are in use, offer to check them out a chromebook if they have a library account.

Tip

More information about patron use of the internet can be found at the Acceptable Use of the Internet page on the public website.

Rationale

The library makes internet and computer access and resources available to all who need or wish to use it/them, regardless of age or background. The library does not track what a patron does (unless they might have been creating a hostile environment or committing a crime), and makes accessing the resources available or the internet access reasonably easy for patrons following our policies.
