Policy
Staff will follow standard procedures when discovering break-ins, burglaries and/or vandalism of County or personal property.
Procedure
The staff member who discovers the break-in, burglary and/or vandalism will:
- Not disturb anything at the scene.
- Notify the police by calling 9.503.823.3333 (Portland Police non-emergency response).
- Ask whether police will be dispatched and, if so, how long it might take them to arrive.
- Call the branch supervisor or person in charge (at Central, call the Central PIC or Central Director) to report the incident.
- While waiting for the police, make a list of missing items, but do NOT disturb evidence.
- Wait for the police to arrive. Ask for the name of the officer responding to the call, and get the incident report number.
- Call Facilities at 503.988.3779 if the building was damaged or you need help securing it (example: broken lock, broken window.)
- Complete a Security Incident Report.
- If damage or loss has occurred the branch supervisor or Central Director should follow Multnomah County Procedures to attempt to recover, replace or repair the County property.
The branch supervisor should notify the Community Services Director to report the incident.
