Branch Emergency Checklist (Google Doc)
Evaluation Considerations - building and surrounding area
Use these guidelines to help you and others to make a decision
Power
- Is it on, off or partially on in the building?
- Does it appear that power is on in the immediate neighborhood?
- Are computers on? Note any that are not working.
- If the power is out, the elevator will not work. Put up signs.
Phone services
(Call IT help desk to report problems)
- Are phones working at all? Incoming? Outgoing?
- ELEVATOR LOCATIONS ONLY: Emergency call buttons in elevators are direct call to Dispatch, should still work when VoIP phones and power is out.
Temperature
- Outdoor? Indoor?
- Acceptable temperature range for staying open is between 60 and 90 degrees in the main room
- Is there any heat in the building?
Roads and sidewalks
- Are sidewalks around building icy or obstructed?
- In winter weather, Facilities staff may not get the sidewalks cleared before opening
- Is traffic moving normally on the surrounding streets?
- Is Tri-Met still running to the branch?
- What are news sources or /city/county officials advising people?
Damage or malfunctions inside building
- Is the plumbing working?
- Are there leaks? Where and how serious?
- Do you smell fumes?
Unusual events in the area
- Is there a dangerous situation or person in the area?
- What are police or other officials advising?
- Does there seem to be immediate danger or a need to lock down the building?
Staffing levels
- How many people are here and in what job classifications? Compare to minimum staffing level.
- What are travel conditions now and what is predicted?
- Are there health and safety issues inside the building?
Please keep in mind that this is not what anyone would consider adequate staffing for your location. With this level, staff will be able to complete only the minimum, core tasks of running the branch on any given day. You may even consider emailing libdelivery@multco.us(link sends e-mail) and asking the drivers to hold the delivery for the next day, if you have enough notice. If you want to know if there are crates being held on the dock, you can contact the sort center at x80150.
