Policy

In case of an elevator failure, reassure those trapped in the elevator and call for help.

Procedure

At Central, Administration or at branches call the 24-hour Facilities emergency number: 503.988.3779 if people are trapped inside the elevator. Tell them that there is an emergency and that help is needed at once.

Reassure those trapped inside the elevator that help is on the way and that they should stay put and try to remain calm.

Notify the branch supervisor or person in charge of the building.

Do not attempt to rescue those trapped between floors by forcing open doors.
