Please use these factors to help patrons charge personal devices safely and successfully.
Space
- Each patron may simultaneously charge up to two devices in usable outlets as space and number of users permits
- Usable outlets vary from location to location and are designated by staff. Staff may make a reasonable request that patrons use only designated outlets.
- Each patron and their belongings can use a reasonable amount of space for one person and patrons must stay with their belongings and can not block access, aisleways, etc.
Safety
- Patrons charge personal devices at their own risk
- We allow one device per outlet
- The capacity of each outlet varies, even within the same building
- Power strips, splitters, multipliers and extenders are not allowed because they have the potential to overload individual circuits
- One to one outlet surge protectors are allowed
- Option for additional charging is to charge through computer/laptop USB ports
Types of devices
- We do not list all restricted devices, but all usage should be in compliance with the behavior rules
- Examples of device restrictions:
- Soldering iron - not safe to use
- Hair dryer - loud, inappropriate behavior
- Electrical mobility chairs - may be charged, as long as they don’t block access to collections or aisles
- Electric bike - bicycles are not allowed in the building
