- Identify the device by device name, make/model, home location, and serial number. It is a good idea to keep a log of this information for each of your laptops. If you have trouble identifying the make/model or serial number, check with Jon Worona.
- Gather related records.
- Signed patron loan agreement, if available.
- Patron name, birth date, and address.
- Date and time the device was loaned.
- Security tape, if available. (Check with Lisa Canavan or Dan Swerbilov)
- Any additional identifying information, if available.
- Report theft to the police, except for patron-loaner Chromebooks.
- When we report a crime against the library to the police, we will provide any patron information that is directly relevant to the crime: name, birth date, address, photographs, and information about the transaction that resulted in theft -- but no additional loan or transaction history.
- Get a police report number and a contact number.
- Follow up with Library management, IT, County Risk Management, etc.
- Create and send a Library Security Incident Log.
- Modify the patron's Symphony record per the Circulation Manual
- Send a report to the Helpdesk at ithelpdesk@multco.us, including the police report number as appropriate. They will create a support ticket.
- If the device needs to be replaced, submit a request through Jon Worona.
- If the item is not returned in good condition within two weeks, file a theft report with County Risk Management.
- If a security tape becomes available, submit it to the police.
