Policy

Staff will take immediate steps to provide for the safety of customers and staff in case of civil disturbance, such as a riot or violent demonstration.

Procedure

1. Call 9-911 and request police assistance.
2. In case of gunfire, take cover.
3. Lock the doors and secure the building if appropriate.
4. Do not interact or argue with demonstrators.
5. Follow the directions of the police.
6. Notify the Library Director's Office and the person in charge of Central Library, Neighborhood Libraries or Support Services (depending on the location of the disturbance).
